Spoiler Alert!
This article contains spoiler from the MILGRAM Novel!

Es, a prison guard in the MILGRAM Novel series. Having no memories of her past, she seeks to find out the "crimes" the prisoners have committed.

Appearance[]

Es is a girl with a standard body type. She has dark bluish-grey hair which is slightly longer than the shoulders, with bangs that she doesn't keep out of her face. She wears the same uniform as the music project's Es, but with her sash containing a leaf pattern as opposed to runes.

Personality[]

Within the prison, Es is a friendly and outgoing person who values the connections of others and believes trust and communication is important to running the prison well. She believes that the best way to be the guard is by being friends with the prisoners to get to know them well. When in social situations, she is able to adapt and please others. This does not prevent her from going as far as to kill for the sake of MILGRAM, with less hesitation than any previous guard. However, she is described to be quite introverted at school. Social situations, although easy to handle for her tend to be pretty draining and she prefers to keep a close-knit circle of friends. Because of her introverted nature, she is deemed to be "mysterious" and "interesting". Es also values helping others whenever they need it, helping Naki out of her self-harming tendencies. She also tends to be non-confrontational and prefers to keep peace.

History[]

In her final year of junior high, Sumi and Naki were close friends. Sumi found Naki self-harming and asked her what was wrong. The two would talk often, and were quite close. However, after Sumi graduated they drifted apart and went non-contact.

In high school, Sumi ended up befriending Aiba. She and Aiba were very close friends, and Aiba would often talk about her crush on Shin with her. At this point, Sumi had not forgotten about Naki as to have mentioned her to Aiba, but had moved on from their friendship. Regardless, Sumi wasn't particularly popular at school but had Aiba and that was what had mattered. But this all changed when a bunch of notes were stuck to the class chalkboard, with messages worshipping Sumi as well as images of her (presumably taken without her knowledge or consent). These messages ranged from "Notice me Kogami-san", "Kogami-san is so pretty today" to "If Sumi is a god, I'm an angel who supports. These messages came from an anonymous admirer with the alias "Shitenshi". Sumi and Aiba were incredibly creeped out and took down the messages. Sumi's classmates shared her concern, and would comfort her after the shocking situation. Sumi put on an act of gratitude, but it was clear she wasn't used to such attention. Soon, the class was getting swarmed with a bunch of texts about Sumi, and the situation became way worse.

In all the excitement of Shitenshi, a lot of the class were too focused on the drama to study for their exams. Their grades drop, and a student takes it out on Sumi as if it was her fault she was being harassed. Sumi snapped, and insisted that she failed her test because she was stupid. After that, everyone was pitted against Sumi. Students would send her death threats, send provocative images of her, bump into her, etc. To escape from the bullying of her classmates, she seeks refuge on the rooftop and meets Touchi. Touchi isn't so happy about his space being invaded, but sympathises with Sumi's situation and the two become friends.

One day, some boys pulled Sumi's hair as she tried getting to the rooftop and end up pushing her down. The impact of the fall left a severe injury on her head. Sumi dragged herself to the rooftop regardless, hoping Touchi can help her. However, he ran late. He eventually made it to the rooftop, and found Sumi bleeding out. He sees Sumi's classmates try to get on the rooftop and realise they were willing to harm her. He closed the door to the rooftop and leaned on it shut as Sumi succumbed to her wounds. At this point, the wound was fatal and Sumi would have died if he hadn't gotten medical attention. Touchi had two choices here: Keep the door closed and protect Sumi from her classmates, but let her die to her wound, or open the door and try to call for help but let the bullies get in. Sumi begs Touchi not to open the door and he complies, leaving Sumi to bleed out from her injury.

Her last words to Touchi were, "Himori-kun, the sky today is beautiful"

Etymology[]

  • Kogami means "lake" (湖) (ko), "up" () (gami)
